HH Guide to the Galaxy
S and I saw it on the night of Friday, and were suitably impressed. Pre-movie opinion of S and my friend the Q-man, that Ford Prefect wasn't black in the book, has changed dramatically post-movie. Mos Def was a GREAT FP, indubitably. The casting was pretty accurate, the special effects were great, overall a kewl movie - but as usual, they introduced some elements that were not in the book - such as the encounter on the Vogon homeworld, and their detour en route to Magrathea, and therefore missed out on some crucial elements.
Would not matter much to people who have not read the books - the movie is quite entertaining per se. But adherence to the storyline in an already-excellent book often makes a better watch - we have seen that with the third Harry Potter movie. Apparently, the screenplay was co-written by Douglas Adams; I wonder if he allowed these changes to the plot, or if they were introduced after his death...
Was a bit disappointed by user ratings of 'B' or 'B-' in different fora, such as Yahoo movies. But then I guess we all know about the tastes and inclinations of Jane and John Q Public...
Hasta la vista, mis niƱos. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
