why do people create blogs?

yes, indeed, why do people create blogs? Is it an extreme need for self-expression? Is it to confer a sense of identity to an otherwise non-descript personality? Or is it a need to say out loud something that has been 'constipating' your system, without the fear of reprisal, within the vast bounds of cyberspace, nameless, faceless, hoping to find some resonance in some equally troubled (constipated) peruser?
